New Orleans - Day 3

The building that now holds Muriel's restaurant was originally built on this prime property bordering Jackson Square in 1754 as a majestic mansion. After a horrendous fire burned most of New Orleans in 1788, the city began a decade of rebuilding. A man named Antoine Jourdan bought the property and restored the mansion to it's original grandeur. He loved his beloved home, but during a poker game in 1814, he wagered the mansion and crushingly lost the most important thing in his life. Before vacating the premises, he committed suicide upstairs, in the slave quarters. So, it's no surprise that they say Antoine's ghost still roams around the restaurant to this day. Muriel's reserves a special table just for him, and at dinner each night they light the candles and set out bread and wine for Antoine.

After dinner, our waitress told us that we were welcome to see Antoine's table, then head upstairs to the Seance Lounge, where the slave quarters were once located. Eeeek. We took her up on her offer. From the hand shaped lights in the brick stairwell, to the eerie red lighting and period furniture in the lounge, we were sufficiently spooked. Thankfully, we didn't see any ghosts, but we did have a lovely dinner and a fun time exploring the history of that beautiful building.

p.s. if you look closely, you will see that Hudson has a piece of paper in his hand when he is upstairs. During all the talk of Antoine during dinner, Hudson decided that he would color "the ghost" a special picture, just in case we happened to run into him. Little sweetie.

A Ghost said...

This was a fun dinner night. Hudson could not stop asking our waitress about the ghost. She told us where his table was so there we go. No ghost. After dinner we talked mama into going and doing a little exploring. Judging from some of Hudsons faces not to sure if he really wanted to go exploring but he did with his eyes wide open.

LOVE YOU!!!
