This winter has been rough on us. After passing around head colds and the flu and a nagging cough,
we were soo glad to see the sun shine on a pretty Saturday. We loaded up our sweet (three-legged) dog, Dakota, and headed north for a lovely mini-road trip, Tennessee style.

Falls Mill, in the valley of Factory Creek was our destination, and it is a beautiful place!
The three story, brick faced mill, tucked among lush trees, faces a gorgeous waterfall. And although it has been in action since the 1800's, this non-profit historical gem opens up every day so that visitors can see a working grist mill in action. The century-old, 32 foot, steel water wheel is a sight to behold.
Upstairs, there is a large collection of vintage goods and mementos. And Hudson's favorite part was the authentic player piano. He loved putting his quarter in, and dancing along as the piano played fun tunes from the roaring '20's!

After our tour of the mill, we explored the grounds and enjoyed the rushing creek. Hudson must really be anticipating warmer weather...we caught him rolling up his pants legs: "I have to roll these up so I can get in the water."

On our way back home, we stopped by the historic Fayetteville square. We went in the cutest antique shops, strolled in the warm air, and let Hudson play on the "canyons" (that say "poooose poooose") outside the old courthouse.

I know it's still very much Winter, in fact, temperatures are plummeting again.
But after such a wonderful day,
I can't resist getting excited about the promise of Spring!

Me too, the warmth is always nice too. Although, I love Winter, I just do. Although, it's probably easier to love it here in California, right? :)

That would be my kids, trying to get in the water. Seriously, we go to the beach pretty often even in winter and sure enough they still get in the ocean, it boggles my mind,....kids are so resiliant.

Love you and miss you!! Talk soon,

Shauna

That is such an awesome road trip! And what a beautiful place to visit! I love your pictures, dear friend. And so sweet that you were able to bring Dakota along!

I think that's just too funny that Hudson thought it was warm enough to get in the water! Poor kiddo. Can you imagine the shock if he actually did put a foot in though how cold it would have been? lol

I hope you have a beautiful Wednesday! Stay warm! We're supposed to have chilly temperatures and rain today. =( if it's gonna precipitate AND be cold, just let it snow.

Sorry to hear you have been having a rough time with bouts of illness. Hope that's all over with.

These photos are stunning. You have no idea how badly I'd love to visit the south.

This was a fun little day trip. I was glad Kota could join us on this trip. This place was really neat. I have always been fascinated with water wheels. It was really neat to see it working and grinding all that grain. I kind of wish we would have bought some of the grain to make some corn bread. It was also fun to to walk around that old TN town.

LOVE YOU and look forward to our next little road trip.

Looks like a fun little trip- if it ever warms up around here (its about 0 degrees today) I think we'll take a little mini break somewhere nearby and get some fresh spring air!
