Memory Thief

Dear Thief,

Thanks a lot for breaking into my car while I
enjoyed a dinner date with my husband.

Hope it didn’t hurt your heart too bad,
when you had to dig under my baby’s blanket
and toys to get to my Nikon Camera. Surely you'll get
lots of money for the thousands of dollars worth of lenses and equipment
that I had stored in my bag.

I'm sure you probably just chunked the
flash drive and memory card that were with my camera,
but I sure wish you had left them behind....
because then I would still have all my photos
from my Honeymoon and the pictures I took of Hudson just this last month.
Thank goodness you can't erase the memories in my head,
because that's all I have left of the thousands of happy moments
that were digitally stored inside my bag.

You didn't steal my sunglasses, even though you
searched through all the cases.
Guess Juicy Couture isn't good enough for ya, huh?
Too bad I had my Burberry glasses in my purse.
Sucker.

I appreciate you not destroying the handwritten bible verse
that you threw out of my glove compartment.
I saved it from an old scrap piece of paper that my deceased Grandpa
had written on....it mentioned Luke 2:14, which says: "Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace,
goodwill toward men."
Obviously you didn't take the time to read it.

Besides feeling extremely violated and terribly sad,
you caused us to miss Shrek the Musical because
we had to file a police report...and it wouldn't really be
fair for the other happy show-goers to have to sit next
to a blubbering mess.
I was really looking forward to seeing that play.

Hope your weekend was a lot better than mine.

This gave me chills and tear up at the same time. People can be ever so cruel. I hope you guys are able to retrieve your camera back, despite the fact that your assumptions of them tossing the memories are true :/

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Oh Ashley. I am so sorry. There is nothing like that feeling that comes after someone steals from you. I wish there was something I could do... I'd punch that thief in the face!

Oh my gosh, Ashley...I am so sorry! That is horrible...some people are such jerks! Someone once stole a (cheaper) camera of mine, and I was devastated...so sad that I lost all those photos. My fingers are crossed that somehow someone finds your stuff ...or at least your memory card and flash drive ...and returns it to you. I hope your week gets better, lady.

Oh no! Ashley I'm so so so sorry! My car was broken into when I was in college-- they stole shoes, cheap glasses and the faceplate for my stereo (not the actual stereo--just enough to make it not work for me or the thief) and I remember feeling so violated and upset! I can't imagine how much more upset I'd have been if they actually stole something of value.

It sounds like despite everything you're still able to cherish the good in your life and the memories that you have, good for you!

Hopefully the police will catch that monster and soon! Fingers crossed!

Sending love <3

I'm so so sorry about this Ashley! But you are right, the memories in your heart and the loved ones around you, that they can't take away. I hope everything goes better this week babe, your name is on my prayer list.

I'm so sorry to hear this my friend. I can never understand why someone steels a flash drive, worth like 15$ at a pawn shop and price less to it's owner. I'm sad to hear such a positive and beautiful person like you is having such a bad episod. Bad things will happen to these people for sure.

This week will get better I'm sure, sending tones of positive vibes ma chérie :S

Oh no, oh no, oh no! This makes me so sad. Because you were having such a nice time and then someone had to ruin it for you. And it's not the camera, it's all those memories that were stolen too. I wish they had taken out the memory card and flash drive. I'm praying they somehow wend their way back to you. Love to to you and big squishing hugs!!!

I'm so sorry to hear this Ashley!
I always cringe at the thought of losing my camera: but losing the memories captured on it is even more heartbreaking.

You're right though, at least they cannot steal the memories from your head that you can hold onto for a lifetime.

Unfortunately, this is the reality of life. There are a lot of sad, pathetic, and insensitive people out there. I'm sory you had to be a victim to one of them. :(

UG! I am SO SO MAD FOR YOU! Can I hunt that thief down and give them a piece of my mind (and get all of your belongings back too)?!

Nooooo! Ashley! I cant believe this! It makes me want to cry!! I know exactly how you feel, remember when ALL of my pics of L were wiped out? Made me physically sick for days! Hopefully the police can find the creep who took your camera & your precious memories!! Praying!

Nikki said...

Oh, no! This makes me so sad for you! I know it doesn't help to hear this...but you took beautiful pictures! I mean, you could seriously make a living off of you photo taking skills. I hope that you have most of the pictures stored on your computer. I hope you find the camera & the belongings! See if the restaurant or area you were at have survaliance footage that the police can check out. Also check with pawn shops, I'm sure they weren't stealing for their own use, but to get money for what they stole. Check Craigslist, too. Hope you find the theif, camera & all the belongings!

:( praying for you girl! it is sad how such petty and selfish actions from one person can do such damage to another person's life! You are so great for seeing some positive in the situation though. that is something I can definitely learn from you. i hope you feel better!

Oh Ashley,
I'm so, so sorry! I had someone steal my Nikon from my car as well (memory card and all). Never fair, never fun, and definitely a feeling of being violated. I wish I could make it better. I'll just be hear offering a verbal hug and listening to the memories you share. You're right, they can't take those lovely moments from your memory...

Oh my gosh Ashley, this is so sad, it makes me almost cry just reading your story. I can't imagine how much heartache you must be feeling now. You are so right though, the thief can never take away your own memories from your head and heart.

I hope that maybe you had some of those memories saved on your computer? I had a bike stolen from me once and the policeman told me to immediately call ahead to every pawn shop in the city so that they could keep an eye out for it, that might be something for you to try.

I really wish we could all go chasing after that thief and get all of your stuff back! The cruelty in this world is just unreal. Keeping you guys in our prayers and hoping that someone catches the thief.

I am really sorry you lost all your pictures. While it isn't as bad as having someone break into your car, my external hardrive just crashed. It had all my pictures on it. Again, this is so much worse but I can empathize about losing all those memories...

Oh my goodness, Ashley, I am so, so sorry that happened!! How utterly heartbreaking. Somehow they never seem to realize we would hand them all our valuable possessions by hand for those priceless moments that are irreplaceable. I am so crossing my fingers that you blogged enough photos or uploaded enough of them up to facebook that you still have a few of the most precious ones. I realize even looking at those now could be sad. I've been there before with a few photos, but not like you're experiencing. Giving you a BIG virtual HUG. Crossing my fingers something AMAZING happens to make up for it all in the next day or two! Not that anything could, but there are miracles. xoxo

Oh no Ashley!! I am so, so, so sorry!! That's absolutely terrible. =( I'm glad you and Will are okay, that you were in the restaurant and not mugged walking to your car, even though I know you're shook up and really upset. Golly day this breaks my heart for you. =( I wish there was something I could do. If I could I would go beat up the thief myself and return your precious photos. Ugh. Maybe the police will find the memory card and flash drive and you'll get your pictures back. Did you have any of the photos on your computer yet?

I kinda know how you feel. I bought a new computer before freshman year of college and on move out day at the end of the year my computer completely died and I lost all the photos I had taken during that whole year. I was devastated. But like you said, at least you have the memories. I'm just sorry you had to lose the pictures to help you remember the memories. =(

Again, I'm so sorry Ashley. Let me know if I can help in anyway. I'll be praying for you, friend.

Oh Ashley. This breaks my heart. I am seriously just sitting here with tears in my eyes and there is nothing I can do to make it better for you. you are one of the most loving, optimistic, faithful and caring people I am lucky enough to have a glimpse of in this life of mine and that this happened to YOU makes me angrier than I can say, but you will forgive, because that’s your way. I’m not a lady like that, I will continue to be mad about this and truly, truly hope that for this person, what goes around, comes back around….although I guess you have to think that for a person to be so desperate as to dig under a bay’s blanket to steal so much from one of the angels of this earth, the circumstances of their life that brought them to such a desperate and heartless act are karma enough. I know enough about you to know that you are probably praying for that person, and counting your blessings.
I’m so, so sorry. the worst things always seem to happen to the best people. I don’t understand it and it’s one of the things that most challenges any faith I have. I am thankful that you weren’t in the car, and that you and your boys are safe. I wish there was more I could do.

I am so mad and upset that this happened to us Swoop. I had been looking forward to this evening for a while and to only have it turned up side down by some jack leg. We had a great meal only to walk out to the car to find that our car had been broken into. I stood there and tried to figure out what had happened. I just could not believe that our car had been broken into. I hate that this happened and we will find the good in this some how.

LOVE YOU!!!

Oh Ashley...I'm so SO sorry!! I can only imagine how frustrated, hurt, violated, and cheated you must feel...the fact that he or she stole your memory cards is heart breaking! I pray the thief is found and you get your items back! Will insurance help at all??...to at least replace your camera and lenses. Til then, I hope to see lots of iphone pictures of your sweet adventures :) Hugs to you friend!!!

Girl. I saw this on your Instagram feed. I swear, I've never insulted anyone in my mind as much as I did for the person who stole your camera/lenses/memory cards.
There's nothing I can say that will comfort you because I KNOW that absolutely nothing would console me if someone had stolen my camera. Nothing. Hope it'll get better with time! You're still the boss applesauce!

OMG NO NO NO N NO!!!!!! Why do people do things like this.. Our car was only broken into once growing up and they stole my sisters walkman that cost almost $200 and for a 12 year old girl that was an irreplaceable gift :( I felt awful for her.. just as I do for you now.. Its not fair..

Big hugs and hoping they find the thief :(
