Tornado Alley

Yesterday, over 137 violent tornados bore down on Alabama, including some of our largest and most populated cities: Florence, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and my hometown of Huntsville. Over 194 people are dead, and the toll continues to rise. I have been without power since yesterday, but from the little bits of information I have received, I know that this is the deadliest series of storms to hit the South in 40 years. Whole towns have been demolished, leaving a record number of families homeless in the wake of this terrible tragedy. Parts of Alabama resemble what I could only describe as a war zone.

Prayers for my state would be greatly appreciated, as Alabamians now begin the long process of cleaning up, dealing with loss, and moving on. If you would like to make a donation to help those affected by these terrible storms, you can visit www.redcross.org

Thank you so much to my friends who sent prayers via twitter, formspring, and email. My family and I are just fine, and we had only mild damage compared to our neighbors throughout the state. We are estimated to be without electricity until Saturday, so the best way to reach me is by email.

Y'alll are still without power?! Ours was out for about 12 hours yesterday but came back on around 4pm. We only live a few blocks from one another so that's crazy that they are saying that you guys will be without until Saturday! I thought most of Florence's electricity had been restored since we only sustained minor damages. Yikes!

Oh, Ashley, I am so very sorry. I have lived through numerous hurricanes here on the Gulf coast of Texas but have never experienced a tornado. I truly believe they are worse as there is no warning nor predicting the terror of a twister. I am so blessed to know you and your family are safe.My heart aches for the devastation and loss of life...love and prayers...

I also have not been to your blog in far too long (gotta love moving) and adore your background! It makes me think summer is nearly here.

The Shoals Area was very lucky with all the storms that came through. A couple days with out power is nothing compared to the cities all around us. We were truly blessed.

I am so glad our family and friends are ok!

LOVE YA'LL
