Friday Night Lights

To the attentive eye,
each movement of the year has it's own beauty,
and in the fame field it beholds, every hour,
a picture which was never seen before
and which shall never be seen again.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

It's that time of the year, again. I'm craving the changing of seasons...the movement from a wardrobe filled with swimwear and sundresses to sweaters and boots. The fade of hot, humid weather into the crisp, autumn air. The welcome sound of the high school band drowned out only by the throngs of screaming fans at the friday night football game. The beginning of shorter days, and the smell of pumpkin spice candles wafting through the air.

This past Friday night, we proudly introduced Hudson to a favorite tradition....high school football. We filed in among the feisty fans, traipsing teens, band parents, and proud football moms and dads to find a cool bleacher seat in the midst of all the blue and white, so that we could cheer on our hometown Florence Falcons. There was a welcome feeling of fall, as the weeklong temperatures of 95+ degrees cooled just in time for Friday evening. We dressed Hudson in his first long sleeved shirt of the season, and enjoyed the breeze and the game simultaneously.

Change is in the air. There's a feeling of gentle weariness around the place, a sense that autumn is drawing near. Fall is welcome, and there is even the hint of a thought that the prospect of winter isn't too bad. I'm relishing in this happy time, because before we know it, autumn, too, will transition. The winter wind will have come, and as cozy as it is under warm down blankets with a good book, we'll be looking forward to another hot and busy summer season.
